Graduate Admission Requirements

Graduate applicants must meet SDSU's minimum admission requirements, as well as any additional requirements for their chosen graduate program. We encourage you to review the SDSU requirements listed in the University Catalog and the graduate program requirements before beginning your application.

Who is a Graduate Student?

You can apply to SDSU as a graduate student if you:

  • Have earned an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association
  • Will have earned an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association by the term immediately prior to enrollment

Three-Year Baccalaureate Degrees

Applicants who have earned a three-year baccalaureate degree from an international institution may be considered for admission. Applicants with a three-year baccalaureate degree in progress at the start of the application filing period are not eligible for graduate consideration.

San Diego State University is accepting applications for fall 2027.

  • August 1, 2026: Cal State Apply opens. Students may begin working on their application.
  • October 1, 2026: The application submission period opens.
