Graduate Spring Steps to Enroll

Spring 2027 Admission

Congratulations on your offer of admission to San Diego State University! You have worked hard to get here, and we are so excited to welcome you to the SDSU family!

Accept your offer of admission and reserve your place for spring 2027 by completing the Steps to Enroll.

  1. Accept Your Offer of Admission and Submit Your Nonrefundable Deposit in my.SDSU
    • Officially accept your offer of admission by submitting the online Intent to Enroll and paying the $400 nonrefundable and nontransferable deposit by November 1, 2026. The $400 deposit will apply toward your spring basic tuition and fees. If you do not submit your Intent to Enroll in my.SDSU by the deadline, it will be assumed that you do not plan to attend SDSU and your offer of admission will be canceled.

  2. Notify Program (if applicable)
    • Some programs may require admitted students to notify them that they are attending. In these cases, admitted students must complete both requirements (submit the online Intent to Enroll and pay the nonrefundable deposit in my.SDSU and notify the department) to officially accept the offer of admission.
    • Refer to the Graduate Programs web page and select your type of program to access contact information for your department.
  3. Final Official Transcripts

    Please check the my.SDSU Task tile for the status of your transcripts.

    If you have coursework in progress at the time of admission, you must submit a final official transcript to Graduate Admissions as soon as possible, and no later than the deadline indicated in my.SDSU.

This step only applies to students who were provisionally admitted because their bachelor's degree was in progress at the time of admission and who are scheduled to graduate during the fall term.

Admission to SDSU as a graduate student requires the completion of a bachelor's degree prior to the start of the fall semester. If you were admitted on a provisional basis because you indicated your degree was in progress, you must complete the following requirements to maintain your offer of admission:

Fall Graduates

  • December 1, 2026: Provide verification that you are on track to complete your bachelor's degree prior to the start of the spring semester. Please check the my.SDSU Task tile for more information on this requirement.
  • December 31, 2026: Complete your bachelor's degree. If your degree will not be earned by this date, please contact Graduate Admissions immediately as you may no longer be eligible for admission.
  • January 21, 2027: Submit your official final transcript with proof of degree. Failure to provide the final transcript by this deadline will result in the revocation of your admission and dismissal from the university even if you are enrolled in courses. Any courses completed during the spring term will not be counted toward any future graduate degree at SDSU.

Failure to complete your degree and provide the required documentation by the appropriate deadlines will result in the cancellation of your admission and your fall courses dropped. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please note your Intent to Enroll deposit is nonrefundable in the event your provisional admission is cancelled.

SDSU provides federal and state financial aid programs (grants, part-time jobs and student loans), as well as private alternative loans and a variety of scholarships for eligible students. Please visit the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for more information on the different types of aid.

If you haven't done so already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. If you are eligible to complete the FAFSA, be sure to use the IRS data retrieval option when completing your FAFSA to reduce errors and list SDSU's federal school code (001151) on your FAFSA.

SDSU will receive your information electronically. Once your application has been received, you will receive an email from the SDSU Financial Aid Office directing you to log in to my.SDSU to check the status of your application.

It is very important that you check your my.SDSU account regularly for financial aid information. All outstanding documents or requests for additional information will be listed on your Tasks list.

Fellowship Programs

Fellowships provide financial support to graduate students and are usually awarded based on academic achievements and qualifications. To be awarded, you must apply.

There are countless fellowships offered both by SDSU and other organizations. Fellowships are competitive and considered the most prestigious form of financial support available. Each requires a separate application and additional requirements. Review each fellowship's application requirements carefully.

After you submit your Intent to Enroll, you will receive information about your official SDSU Gmail email address, which is the campus standard for communication and collaboration. Future official communication from the university will be delivered to your official SDSU Gmail address after your Intent to Enroll is submitted. Monitor Your Tasks Tile and Keep Your Contact Information Updated

Visit my.SDSU and select my.SDSU Login. Enter your SDSUid and password, then select Sign In to log in to my.SDSU.

  • Use the Tasks tile to review any checklist items (To Do’s) you need to complete.
  • Use the Profile tile to review and update your contact information, if needed.

Review Your Admission Residency Status

  • Your initial residency status is determined by the Office of Admission according to answers to questions on the admission application.
  • Check your residency status by reviewing the Admission Residency Status tile.
  • If you believe your residency status is incorrect, review the Residency For Tuition Purposes web page and then contact Graduate Admissions for further instructions.

Immunization Requirements

All students must meet specific immunization requirements.

Immunizations – Due Prior to January 5, 2027

Provide proof of your immunizations and complete your Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment prior to January 5, 2027. Review the Immunization Requirements web page ahead of time to review the requirements that apply to you and begin working with your healthcare professional to ensure you have completed all of the required immunizations. Make sure you have acceptable proof of completed immunizations available for submission. Acceptable proof includes records from your high school, private healthcare provider, local health department or campus health center. Log in to the HealtheConnect portal and upload your proof of immunizations.

Health Care Insurance

Life without health insurance carries serious risk to your health, wellness and personal finances. To help ensure graduate students have access to quality, affordable coverage, San Diego State University offers the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP). Through GSHIP, students can enroll in a comprehensive health plan provided by Aetna Student Health and specifically designed to meet the needs and budget of the graduate student community.

The federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires taxpayers and their dependents to carry health insurance. The health and wellness fee you pay each semester provides access to Student Health Services (SHS) but is not a health insurance plan under ACA guidelines. SHS is a healthcare facility that can address basic health care needs while on campus, in Calpulli Center. SHS offers quality and convenient healthcare by certified healthcare professionals. The health and wellness fee also supports Well-being & Health Promotion, Counseling & Psychological Services, as well as Student Ability Success Center.

All SDSU graduate students are required to provide proof of ACA-compliant health insurance coverage. Students with existing health insurance through an employer, family member or any other source are required only to provide evidence of coverage once per year.

Dedicated SDSU staff are available to counsel students without health care coverage (or temporarily between plans), and provide advice on selecting among a range of health insurance options. To request a one-on-one appointment with our Healthcare Coverage Coordinator, please fill out the online Healthcare Connection Coordinator Virtual Assistance form. Those struggling to afford any of the available options may be eligible for financial support from SDSU ECRT.

Registration for spring 2027 classes will begin in November 2026. An email notification will be sent to you with additional information.

Graduate Enrollment

  • Full-time enrollment for a graduate student is a minimum of 9 units of coursework numbered 500 through 999.
  • Half-time enrollment for a graduate student is a minimum of 5 units of coursework numbered 500 through 999.

Please contact your graduate program for assistance in selecting your classes. You should also consult the University Catalog for a full listing of classes required by your program of study.

New Graduate Student Orientation is offered before graduate students begin their program at SDSU for the spring 2027 semester and is optional.

Information for spring 2027 admitted students and New Student Orientation will be available in fall 2026.

Additionally, some graduate departments offer program-specific orientations leading up to the start of the academic year. You will be notified by your department of your program's orientation date and time. You are also expected to review the Handbook for New Graduate Students, which provides an overview of graduate programs and policies, on the Grad Resources web page.

Information about your basic tuition and fees will be available to you on the Tuition and Fees web page on the University Bursar's Office website.

For your specific payment deadline to pay your basic tuition and fees, log in to your my.SDSU and select the Financial Account tile.

Disability Services

Student Disability Services (SDS) at San Diego State University authorizes and provides a variety of services and accommodations, which are determined on a case-by-case basis and in consultation with an SDS counselor.
